Delete your account
You can delete your Blue Trails account at any time, from the app or by email. Deleting is permanent: your dives, photos and everything else listed below are erased and can't be recovered. If you want to keep your history, export your data first.
From the app
- Tap Me in the bottom bar, then the gear icon at the top right to open Settings.
- Tap Account settings.
- Tap Delete Account (in red, at the bottom of the list).
- Read the warning and tap Send verification code. We email a 4-digit code to the address on your account.
- Type the code. The deletion starts as soon as the fourth digit is in — or tap Confirm Deletion.
The code is valid for 5 minutes. If it doesn't arrive, wait for the counter and tap Resend code. Once the code is accepted, the app signs you out.
Signed in with Apple and "Hide My Email"
The code goes to the private relay address Apple created for Blue Trails, and Apple forwards it to the email of your Apple ID.
There is no waiting period: the account is closed the moment you confirm, and there's nothing to cancel afterwards.
Without the app
If you no longer have the app or can't sign in, email contact@bluetrails.eu with the subject Delete my account, and include:
- The email address of your Blue Trails account.
- How you sign in: email code, Apple or Google.
- Your nickname in the app, if you remember it.
Send it from the address on the account if you can. To make sure the request really comes from you, we reply with a verification code to that address before deleting anything. We process requests within 30 days and confirm by email when it's done.
What gets deleted
As soon as the deletion is confirmed:
- Your profile — personal details, date of birth, emergency information, profile photo, sign-in details and your Apple or Google link. Your nickname becomes free for someone else, and your email can be used to sign up again (as a brand-new, empty account).
- Your logbook — every dive, the data from your dive computer and your imports.
- Photos and videos — from your dives and your posts, deleted from our storage and from our media servers.
- Certifications, equipment and documents, including the files you uploaded.
- Medical questionnaires, with their signatures and attached certificates.
- The feed — your posts (bubbles), comments, reactions and saved posts.
- Chats — whole conversations, including the messages your buddies sent you in them.
- Buddies — every buddy connection and pending invitation, and the dives you shared with others.
- Plans — the ones you organised are removed; you're taken off the ones you joined.
- Everything else tied to you — notifications, achievements, statistics, data exports, referral gifts and the invitations you sent. Your referral codes stop working.
What we keep, and why
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| A closed-account record: your original email, nickname, name and location, when and how the account was closed, how many dives and photos it had and the plan you were on. | To know the account existed and was closed, and to answer if you contact us about it. | 12 months, then anonymised: name, email, nickname and location are removed. |
| The anonymised record that's left: country, language, device, dates, counts, plan and a one-way hash of your email. | Statistics on why people leave, and stopping the same email from claiming a referral reward twice. It can't be traced back to you. | Indefinitely. |
| Purchase and payment records (ids and amounts only, no names). | Accounting and tax obligations. | As long as tax and accounting law requires. |
| Referral records of who invited whom, with no personal data. | They are also part of the other person's record and rewards. | As long as the related payment records. |
| Activity and security logs. | Security, fraud prevention and service metrics. | 12 months. |
| Feedback and support tickets you sent us. | They may explain a problem or why you left. | 12 months. |
| Records of messages we sent you (emails and notifications, and unsubscribes). | Proof of what was sent and of your opt-out. | 12 months. |
| What dive centers recorded about your bookings and rentals. | It's the dive center's own business record, not part of your account. The link between that record and your Blue Trails account is cut. | Up to each dive center — contact them directly. |
Content that lives in other divers' accounts — their own dives, their photos, the posts they wrote — belongs to them and isn't deleted.
Subscriptions
Deleting your account doesn't cancel a paid plan. Subscriptions are billed by Google Play or the App Store, not by Blue Trails, so cancel them there before you delete the account:
- Android — Google Play → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Blue Trails → Cancel subscription.
- iPhone — Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Blue Trails → Cancel Subscription.
Refunds follow the store's rules. See Plan and storage.
